With the vinyl revival showing no sign of abating (last year saw record sales in the UK reach a 25 year high), there’s no better time to start investing in those magic bits of plastic. Cue Secret 7”: the art and music project designed to put something truly one-off in your record box, which will be returning for a sixth year this summer and relocating to a new home at The Jetty in Greenwich.
The premise is simple: seven classic singles (this time including offerings from Jimi Hendrix, Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream and The Clash among others) are re-pressed on 7” vinyl for a limited run of 100 each. Artists are then invited to submit sleeve designs for each one, with the resulting 700 original artworks displayed in a final exhibition. Then, before the identity of the artists are revealed, the records are sold at a flat rate of £50 each with proceeds going to mental health charity MIND. You could end up with work from the likes of Sir Peter Blake, Yoko Ono or Gilbert & George – all of whom have previously contributed to the project – or a completely new artist. It’s an arty pot luck.

The exhibition will run from June 8th to 23rd and the artwork submissions are being accepted until April 24th. Pick your musical muse and get doodling.
