Design District's co-working club Bureau provides opportunities for its members to connect and grow alongside like-minded individuals and businesses. But just who are these creative talents and what do they make of the community they're building?

Morgan Avéus

Lounge Member

What’s your name and where do you come from?

My name is Morgane Avéus. I am French, but I have lived and worked in six different countries.

Explain what you do in a few words.

I am an architect and furniture designer, with my own studio: Morgane Avéus.

What’s the most interesting thing about the work you do?

I get to work on a variety of projects and at different scales. Nothing is ever the same! Each project is instructive in its own way.

How has the field you work in changed over the last few years?

I think people want their interior to be less generic and more a representation of who they are. The more time you spend at home, the more you realise how much a difference it can make to have an interior that resembles you and that you can truly enjoy.

What’s it like to work here at Bureau?

Very chill and stimulating at the same time! You have the option to choose between different workspaces: between the lounge, the shared table, the restaurant… They all have a different atmosphere, so it never gets dull.

Are there any particular perks?

The best thing is that you are among creative people. It is always a plus to me, whether you are looking for business opportunities or simply to connect with people that understand fully what you do and can have insightful work-related conversations with.

Have you worked with any of your neighbours yet?

Not yet, but I’m looking forward to meeting with the neighbours and connecting with the community during one of the regular events held here.

What's your favourite thing to do on Greenwich Peninsula?

I like Canteen, the new food court right next to Bureau. It is always great to have loads of options during lunch break or to have afterwork drinks at the end of the day!

Anish Joshi

Hot Desk Member

What’s your name and where do you come from?

Anish Joshi. Originally born in India, I grew up in the UK from the age of four I’ve also lived and worked in Oman, the Bay area in the US, and the Bahamas. I like to think that I’m a global citizen, but my accent is a hybrid of Scottish and Yorkshire.

Explain what you do in a few words.

I’ve always been fascinated and driven by what the future of design is and I’m currently championing this with my co-founder Niharika Hariharan through ‘Design3’ where we lead the next iteration of the internet (Web3) with human-centred design and innovation.

What do you love best about it?

It’s great to meet and work with really passionate people that love design too. Together we craft, create, bounce new ideas off each other, make a difference, noodle the quirky details, and try to do good.

How has the field you work in changed over the last few years?

Design is an extremely dynamic field and currently designers are in places of influence in a way they never have been before. With the emergence of Web3 we have all these solutions looking for problems, and it’s design’s role to humanise, to problem solve, and bring balance and focus to the tech.

How long have you worked out of Bureau?

It’s only been about three months now, but it’s great. A lovely space to get work done in, but also to have a nice mocha in the restaurant and entertain guests in the cool rooms, like the forum and the (red, plush, cinema-style) lounge.

Why did you choose to move here?

I like working from home, but it’s good to get out and be in a creative environment. Having that ‘commute’ gets you into a place (physical and mental) to be able to concentrate on work in a different way.

Tell us something we might not know about the Bureau community.

I think it’s really, really, diverse, in terms of people and in terms of professions. I love that, although we’re all under the umbrella of ‘design’ or ‘creative’, I’ve heard and seen conversations from people working in TV to interior design and advertising.

Nassib El Mourabet

Fixed Desk Member

What’s your name and where do you come from?

I’m Nassib El Mourabet, from Beirut, Lebanon.

Explain what you do in a few words.

Freelance Motion Designer and VFX Artist.

What do you love about your work?

I am so passionate about it that it rarely feels like work.

How has the field you work in changed over the last few years?

There’s a constant need to be up-to-date on software, and the design trends change every few months so you have to keep up technically and creatively, which is very demanding!

Why did you choose to move here?

Two words: Design District – a hub of creativity that I need to be right in the middle of. The possibilities for networking with relevant clients, colleagues and even suppliers are endless. I know that even though it’s a recent venture, DD will grow to be a vibrant hive of creativity and design.

What’s it like as a place to work?

With staff that feel like family, and services that feel almost like personal concierge at top hotels, you get the homely feeling and professional standards of service. The facilities are high-tech and aesthetically pleasing, from the lounges to the restaurant, or our fixed desk spaces. It really helps create the feeling that you’re not going to work.

Tell us something we might not know about the Bureau community.

Colleagues quickly become friends. I have already made quite a few here. They’re not a bunch of introverts like one would expect in such coworking spaces – and I have been around a few!

Have you worked with any of your neighbours yet?

I have met and networked with several people who have moved into Bureau recently, and I’m now a go to provider for a few production companies and design agencies here.

Nikki Dupin

Serviced Studio Member

What’s your name and where do you come from?

Nikki Dupin. I come from South Shields, in the north east of England.

Explain what you do in a few words.

I am creative director of an independent design studio, Studio Nic&Lou specialising in beautifully-packaged and well-considered design solutions for publishing houses and other organisations.

What’s the most interesting thing about the work you do?

I get to work with an amazing team of ambitious creative people, both in my studio and through collaboration with other teams. I also get to work on a huge variety of projects from small independently-published books to more commercially successful titles. We have recently art directed and designed books for Paul Hollywood, Gino DiCampo, Melissa Hemsley, Laurence Llwellyn-Bowen and Tom Daley to name a few.

How has the field you work in changed over the last few years?

The publishing landscape hasn’t changed that much over the last few years but our work and the kind of work that we get commissioned for has. Studio Nic&Lou has evolved into the go-to team for stylish, stand-out, commercially-successful book design that packs a big design punch.

How long have you worked out of Bureau?

We joined Bureau in September 2021.

Why did you choose to move here?

I wanted a studio that was affordable, flexible, in a great location and with other like-minded creative people. Bureau seemed a really good fit.

Have you worked with any of your neighbours yet?

We are really friendly with the teams on our floor and also have just worked with another DD tenant on a book project with Tom Daley. We shot the book at Method Studio which was amazing and the whole wider shoot team loved being here.

What's your favourite thing to do on Greenwich Peninsula?

I cycle to work every day along the river tow path which I absolutely love. I enjoy taking the Uber Boat down the river and the cable cars are also really fun. The Design District Canteen is great and all of the Peninsula events and NOW Gallery are really interesting too. Stanley Watts Hairdressers is a real find as well as the rooftop Yoga classes that are hosted by Bureau.
